Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

According to the Portuguese Association of Physiotherapy (APFISIO), Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is a field of physiotherapy focused on the prevention and treatment of conditions originating from the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

This specialized area aims to help individuals prevent, manage, reduce, or eliminate pain and symptoms associated with musculoskeletal disorders, through clinical reasoning based on the best available scientific evidence and the application of specific therapeutic techniques.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy can be applied at any age and encompasses a wide range of conditions, always aiming to achieve maximum functionality and improve each person’s health-related quality of life.

At Physiokinesis, we have extensive experience in treating a wide variety of clinical conditions within Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, including:

  • Postural Problems (idiopathic scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis, genu valgum/varum);

  • Spine (disc herniation, torticollis, neck pain, cervicobrachial pain, dorsal pain, low back pain, lumbosciatica, sciatica);

  • Post-surgical Rehabilitation (prostheses, arthroscopies, ligament reconstructions, plastic/reconstructive surgery);

  • Soft Tissue Injuries (muscle strains, tendinopathies, ligament tears);

  • Head and Cranial Disorders (headaches, temporomandibular joint dysfunction – TMJ);

  • Shoulder (dislocation, subacromial impingement, shoulder instability, adhesive capsulitis “frozen shoulder”);

  • Elbow (epicondylitis – “tennis/golfer’s elbow”);

  • Wrist and Hand (carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist instability, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, trigger finger);

  • Hip (pubalgia, trochanteric bursitis, femoroacetabular impingement, hip osteoarthritis);

  • Knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome, patellar tendinopathy, iliotibial band syndrome, ligament injuries, meniscal tears, genu valgum/varum);

  • Ankle and Foot (sprains, chronic instability, reduced mobility, flat foot, high arch foot);

  • Facial Paralysis (Bell’s palsy, Ramsay Hunt syndrome);

  • Among others.

At Physiokinesis, we believe that high-quality rehabilitation begins with time, attention, and a truly personalised approach. That’s why all physiotherapy sessions last 60 minutes, and each physiotherapist treats only one patient per hour. This allows us to focus entirely on the client’s needs and determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

A physiotherapy first session includes a thorough assessment, during which the physiotherapist reviews the patient’s clinical history, health condition, goals, lifestyle, and any relevant personal factors. Following the evaluation, the physiotherapist begins the patient’s recovery process from the very first session, ensuring progress starts immediately.

As the patient progresses through their rehabilitation journey, the physiotherapist continuously monitors their progress and adjusts the treatment plan as needed. Every step is tailored to the patient’s personal characteristics, clinical condition, and individual objectives, ensuring not only the physiotherapist’s involvement but also the patient’s active engagement.

Our goal is to provide a clinical environment where your recovery is guided with expertise, attention, and genuine care every single session.
